The Harbour View Football Club and the wider community is gearing up for greater transformation, with the VM Group’s return as club sponsor for the 2024/2025 Jamaica Premier League (JPL) season.
VM is now entering its fourth year of sponsorship, having signed on during the 2021/ 2022 season. This year’s agreement will see VM supporting the Harbour View Football Club’s participation to the tune of $10 million. The season’s media launch was held on Tuesday (September 10) at the J Wray and Nephew headquarters in New Kingston.
Chief Executive Officer of the VM Building Society (VMBS), Paul Elliott, noted that VM continues to be passionate about transforming lives and the VM Team was deliberate about not only supporting the club in the competition, but continuing to build on the community development projects started through the partnership.
“The Harbour View Football Club is a longstanding institution catering to footballers of all ages and providing an outlet for uplifting community members. Since the first year of partnership, we have provided financial support to the club’s operations, helped senior players start pension plans and engaged them in financial planning workshops, along with coaches and administrative staff. Our most recent activity was on Labour Day when our Team Members did refurbishing work on the Harbour View Mini Stadium, boosting its capacity to resume hosting events as an income generating activity. This season, we will be incorporating more engagements off the field, with schools and the wider community members as we seek to deepen the relationships necessary to help more people transform their lives”, Elliott shared.
The Club has been a staple in the annual Jamaica Premier League competition and caters to players from within and outside the Harbour View community. Several of these players have transitioned to showcasing their skills in international leagues and gaining additional income. It has also been a base for fostering other avenues of individual and community development. VM will be targeting schools through its School Savers Programme and engaging the wider community through financial expos and other promotional activities, which will expose them to VM’s products and services, as well as financial literacy sessions.
Commenting on the transformational power of sport, Elliott reiterated, “VM wants to ensure that the players and community members can maximise the benefits of this partnership. We care about the overall wellbeing of our existing and prospective Members and clients, and while we have the opportunity, we will continue to use this platform to demonstrate that care and empathy and work with the community to transform their financial future”.
